ROBERTS, Richard A ("Dick") died March 18 at the Ohio Masonic Home. Born in Springfield Sept 29, 1921, to parents Arthur and Lydia Johnston Roberts, he is a Springfield High School '40 graduate. He worked in the tool and die trade in Springfield until he enlisted in the Navy and served 1941-45, receiving the Purple Heart. While stationed in Memphis, he married fellow Navy instructor Esther Kathleen Gant in October 1943. She died in 2005. Dick attended Wittenberg University and University of Dayton and retired after 30 years as a quality control engineer from Kelsey-Hayes (formerly Steel Products Engineering Co and SPECO). Among many community groups, he was active in Junior Achievement, Lifetime Member Box 27, Exchange Club, Amateur Radio WB8SNH, St Andrew's Lodge #619 F and AM for nearly 70 years, Lifetime Member Disabled American Veterans, a wide variety of professional engineering organizations and served as board president for the local American Red Cross. A member of Sulphur Grove United Methodist Church in Huber Heights, he was a member of Chancel Choir and helped coach the softball team.

He is survived by daughters Kathleen of Galloway and Maggie of Troy, and son Rick (Pat) of Harveysburg; four grandchildren Lane (Carla) Oatman of Middletown, Alison (Bernie) Kwiatkowski of Pittsburgh, PA, JD Vent (Heather) of Troy, and Amy (Dean) Weaver of Gallatin, TN; six great grandchildren Allie and Jenna Vent and Cam, Grant, Jacey and Laurel Weaver; and his brother Rev. William (Lorraine) Roberts of Blackfoot, ID.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, March 30, at Sulphur Grove UMC, 7505 Taylorsville Rd, Huber Heights, Rev Tom Hanover officiating. Family will receive guests at the church beginning at 10 am. Interment will be in the WWII Veterans' section of Ferncliff Cemetery at the family's convenience.
