Funeral services for Albert H. Zimmerman will be held at 10 a.m. Dec. 5 at the Lutheran Church of the Covenant 19000 Libby Road, Maple Heights, Pastor Joseph Rinderknecht officiating. Mr. Zimmerman, 85, a Bedford Heights resident since 1962, died Dec. 1 at South Pointe Hospital in Warrensville Heights.

Mr. Zimmerman retired in 1983 from Dun & Bradstreet, Inc. where he was District Service Manager. He served 43 years after starting with the firm as a messenger boy.

Mr. Zimmerman was a native of Cleveland, where he graduated from East High School in 1940 and attended Ohio State University.

Inducted into the US Army in 1942, he served overseas in England and Europe. As a Master Sargent, heading the 12th AAA Anti Aircraft Group Communication Division, he received many decorations and citations, including a bronze star.

Since becoming a licensed amateur radio operator in 1938, he was an active member of many radio groups. His favorites were QCWA Cleveland Chapter One as a life member and the Chippewa Amateur Radio Club, operating the emergency radio station W8BAA at the Brecksville VA Hospital. His call letters were W8UYN.

An active member of the Lutheran Church of the Covenant in Maple Heights, he enjoyed being a Sunday school teacher and held several offices.

Mr. Zimmerman is survived by his wife, Heidi M. (nee Horvath) Zimmerman; a daughter, Bonnie (the Rev. John) Stephenson of St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada; and three grandchildren: Mary, Margaret and Theresa Stephenson. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Marion B. (nee Powell), in 1991 after 50 years of marriage.

Arrangements are being handled by Johnson Romito Funeral Home, 521 Broadway Ave.

In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to the Zimmerman Library at the Lutheran Church of the Covenant.

Burial will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park, Bedford Heights.
