W8UKQ, David L. Glass, QCWA #17415 passed away on Tuesday April 3. Dave was first licensed in 1954 and joined QCWA in 1983,

In addition to being Chapter 21's Secretary/ Treasurer for eleven years he was also an active member of the Alliance Amateur Radio Club and served as the Secretary for many years.

Dave was awarded the QCWA Meritorius Award in 1998 and the QCWACentury Certificate in 2005. He was a very active ham and had achieved both WAS and WAC certificates.

Dave was born March 25, 1927 in Smith Township, Beloit, Ohio to Lewis Henry and Ruby (Heim) Glass and resided in Alliance all of his life. David graduated from Beloit High School in 1945 and Mount Union College in 1950. He was a member of Union Avenue Methodist Church and served in the U.S. Navy from 1945-1946 and 1950-1952 in aviation electronics. He became Personnel Director for the former Alliance Clay Products Co. and retired from Diebold in Canton as Payroll Manager. David was an Amateur Radio Operator W8UKQ since 1954, a member of Alliance Amateur Radio Club, QCWA, Chapter 21 in Canton and member of the Beloit Alumni Association.

He is survived by his wife, SharonL.(Swimley) Glass whom he married Dec. 16, 1950 at Naval Air Station, Norfolk, VA; children, Eric A. (CWO4, USMC, Retired) and Judy Glass of Kansas City, MO., Elaine J. and Tim Brown of Alliance and Eden L. Toddes of Mechanicsburg, PA; grandchildren, Kelly Brown, Patrick Brown, Daniel Toddes and Savannah Toddes; sister; Evangeline M. (Glass) Case of Sebring; and sister-in-law, Emma Glass of Sebring. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother Leland L. Glass.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday April 9, 2007 at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home with Rev. David Hostetler officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the service.
