Frederick Fred George Roberts, III of Riverside, CA died May 9, 2020, at the age of 93, at Sunrise Canyon Crest where he had been living since October, 2016. He is now reunited with his loving wife Ann of 69 years and their son, Kevin Christopher Roberts, both who preceded him in his journey to Heaven.

Fred was the only child of Frederick George Roberts, Jr and Margaret Rita Cavosie (whose birth name was Marguerite Sophia Cavosie) born in Bronxville, NY on April 13, 1927. He married Ann Katherine Cannon at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Church, Forest Hills, NY on February 12, 1950. He is survived by his son Rick Roberts (Elizabeth Kennedy) of El Segundo, CA, his three daughters Susan Roberts of Loma Linda, CA, Kim Roberts (Joe Ewing) of Seattle, WA and Lisa Schmid (Dave) of Minnetonka, MN, ten grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.

Fred will be remembered for his fierce love of his wife, Ann, his family, his love for ham radio, his sense of humor, his love of dogs, his gregarious nature and his ability to fix anything. His motto was, If it's already broken, I can't hurt it!

Fred attended PS 51 in Queens, NY for grades 1 and 2 where he may have been in the same 1st and 2nd grade classes with his future wife. Fred attended Hempstead Schools for grades 3-8, then went to Hempstead High School. While in high school one of the clubs he joined was the Radio Club where he was president for 2 years. Then Fred went to Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn in Brooklyn, NY. Here he majored in Electrical Engineering which served him well over the years. When in college he joined the Alpha Sigma Phi Fraternity and was president for 1-2 years.

Fred was the General Manager of North Atlantic Industries, Inc in Plainview, NY. Next Fred worked for Bourns, Inc in Riverside, CA and lastly a software company in Santa Monica, CA before retiring.

His lifelong passion of ham radio began when he was just 9 years old. Over the years, Fred joined radio clubs in New York, Riverside and Norco, CA and Seattle, WA. From his ham shack in his garage he spoke to ham radio operators worldwide, participating in and organizing contests and special events. As part of the Northern CA QSO Party (1988-2000), he set 2 new records for most contacts made (1004 and 1458) and most often he was in first place. He even worked the station in the Vatican when on a business trip to Rome! His QSL card collection (postcards the hams sent out with call stats) spanned 1951-1956 and 1974-2016. 2016 was when he lost his ability to use his radio. He kept every QSL card ever sent to him and had well over 6,000 of them. During the 18 year gap, when the children were young, he had put the radio away. Fred Roberts, W6TKV, is now a Silent Key!

Fred's family would like to thank his fellow residents, neighbors, friends and caregivers for the support they so lovingly provided. We are grateful for your love and care of our father.
