Clarence W Powell, 94, passed away December 10, 2011 in Topeka, KS. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, December 15, 2011 at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Howard Chapman, officiating. Entombment will be in Crestview Mausoleum under the direction of Lunn's Colonial Funeral Home.

Clarence was the son of Will and Emma Lee Mitchell Powell and was born in Denton County Texas March 2, 1917, at age seven his family moved to Krum, Texas where they farmed. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree from North Texas State Teachers College and received his Masters Degree in Education from Midwestern State University and completed twelve hours on his Doctorate from NTSU in Denton. He was a high school teacher for a decade earning $87.50 a month in the year 1939. He served in the US Navy during World War II. Clarence retired as a civil service tech writer from Sheppard Air Force Base.

He served as a deacon at the First Baptist Church. Travelled to the Holy Land, Jordan and Egypt, voted all his life, was a Ham Radio Operator W5QJY, member of the American Radio Relay League for over 60 years, member of North Texas Traveler Club and Wichita Wagons Travel Trailer Club. He also had a private pilot's license since 1968 where he helped the Eye Bank in Wichita Falls.

Clarence reminisced frequently about his first auto, a Model T Ford, when gasoline was only nine cents a gallon. He paid a nickel for a Coca Cola and went to ten cent movies. He won his school spelling bee when he was 13 years old.
