Comanche - LEONARD LEON MELTON, 83, of Comanche, Okla., died Monday, Feb. 23, 2009, at Wilkins Nursing Center in Duncan, Okla. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 26, at First United Methodist Church in Duncan, with the Rev. Phil Ware officiating. Interment will be in Duncan Cemetery under direction of Don Grantham Funeral Home.

He was born Dec. 21, 1925, at Oklahoma City, to Lonzo Lee and Ada Venus Sprout Melton. He married Bonnie Blaylock on May 31, 1951, at Oklahoma City. She preceded him in death June 20, 1959.

Leonard graduated from Capitol Hill High School and earned a bachelor's degree from The University of Oklahoma. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Air Force. Leonard worked as a chemical engineer for Halliburton Services from Jan. 1, 1953, to Jan. 31, 1978.

He was a member of the Ham Radio Club and enjoyed storm watching and farming.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Dorothy and James Hancock of Comanche; a son, Leon Melton Jr. of Raymond, N.H.; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his parents.

Pallbearers will be Norman Sayers, Reginald Lasater, Edwin Stahl, Cecil Conner, Jerry Bailey and Bluford Miller.

Honorary bearers are Jim Williams and Bill Davis.
