John Hurst Embry passed away Tuesday, July 2, 2019 in Spanish Fort, Alabama at the age of 85.

John was born and raised in Montgomery, Alabama. He attended Auburn University, where he graduated in 1957 with a degree in Industrial Management. He immediately reported to Ft. Huachuca in Arizona where he served as a First Lieutenant in the US Army until 1959. While serving in the army, he met and married his wife, Peggy Philyaw. They were married for 61 years.

After being discharged from the service, he went to work for Pan American at Cape Canaveral, Florida. His career in the Aerospace industry took him to Houston, TX and later Slidell, LA where he worked at Stennis Space Center until he retired in 1993. John and his wife Peggy were members of Slidell United Methodist Church. John's hobby during his life and retirement was working ham radio. His amateur radio call letters were W4RTE. Later in retirement he and Peggy moved to Spanish Fort, Alabama.

John was preceded in death by his mother, Lula Holley Embry; his father, McClure Embry; and his sister, Jackie Embry Prim.

He is survived by his wife, Peggy Embry. He is the father of John Embry (Anna) and Sandra Byrd (Mark), and grandfather to James Embry (Melissa) Paul Embry (Anna), Sarah Arnevik (David), Morgan Sanders (Nick), and Garrett Byrd (Ashley). He is the great grandfather of Ethan Embry, Colton Embry, Kate Embry, Finn Embry, Clayton Embry, Zoey Arnevik, Emmy Sanders, Sawyer Sanders, and Luke Sanders.

John's family would like to thank the staff at Westminster for the care and support they have given to John and his family.

A private interment will be held at the Alabama State Veteran's Memorial Cemetery in Spanish Fort at a later date.
