We are sorry to report the passing of long time ARRL Southeastern Division Assistant Director Charles I. "Chuck" Baer, W4ROA on March 7th from a long illness. He was 74 years old.

Originally licensed in Chicago in 1959 at age 17 as KN9TVA, Chuck worked at Allied Radio at 100 N. Western Ave.

Chuck and his family moved to South Florida and went to work for Motorola at their Plantation manufacturing facility. He led the team that produced the amateur radio gear for the Space Shuttle program. Chuck was a founding member of the Motorola Amateur Radio Club W4MOT and served as their repeater trustee for many years. He retired from Motorola after 29 years of service.

Chuck was very active in the Broward County amateur radio community. He belonged to the South Florida DX Association, the Broward Amateur Radio Club and the Everglades Chapter 69 of QCWA. He was an active member of the Southeast Florida Traffic Net.

Chuck held an Extra Class ticket, was a member of the ARRL A1 Operator Club and served as an ARRL Official Observer for over 50 years in Illinois and Florida.

Chuck is predeceased by his XYL Ruth and survived by his son Mark, KF4MXS.

A memorial service for Chuck will be held a 12 noon, Tuesday March 10th at the Star of David Memorial Gardens & Chapel, 7801 Bailey Rd., North Lauderdale, FL 33068
