Buck Manthey

Former Paris resident and retired TVA civil engineer John F. "Buck" Manthey, 93, of Knoxville died Sunday, Dec. 9, 2012.

A funeral mass is planned at 5 p.m. Friday at All Saints Catholic Church in Knoxville, where he was a founding member. Michael Woods will officiate. A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Sunset Cemetery in Murphy, N.C.

Visitation will be after 3 p.m. Friday, with a rosary said at 4:30 p.m. at the church. Click Funeral Home in Knoxville is in charge.

An Antigo, Wis., native, his wife of 37 years, Martine Moore Manthey, preceded him in death. A World War II Army veteran, he worked with the Manhattan Project in Oak Ridge and retired with TVA's hydraulic data branch.

Survivors are two daughters: Sandra (Thomas) Davidson of Orange Beach, Ala., and Maureen (William) Shuster of Knoxville; one son: George (Nancy Sanders) Manthey of Knoxville; a sister: Bernadine Manthey of Manitowoc, Wis.;

Seven grandchildren: Thomas John (Sonia) Davidson, Gini Fales, Elizabeth (Scott) Norris, Luke (Christy) Schuster, Mark and Kathleen Schuster and James (Rebecca) Manthey; seven great-grandchildren: Thomas and David Fales, Connor and Katherine Morris, Addison, Coleton and Ashlynn Manthey; and several nieces and nephews.

He also was preceded in death by two brothers: Richard Paul Manthey and Robert John Manthey; a sister: Rosaria Manthey; and an infant son.
