MSgt. Kenneth G. McKee, Jr, US Air Force (Ret.), of Odenton, MD and formerly of Bowie, MD, died on Thursday, March 31, 2016 at the age of 85. He was born in 1931 in Junction City, KS and was raised in Seneca, KS. Following his retirement from the Air Force, he worked as a Realtor in the Bowie and Crofton area. Ken was a long-time Ham Radio Operator, W3RFQ.

He enjoyed singing in the church choir and most recently with the Bowie Senior Chorale.

Beloved husband of Marilyn J. McKee; loving father of Cynthia Barnett (Paul) and Stephanie Casey (Patrick); son of the late Kenneth and Pearl McKee; grandfather of Jeffrey Casey, Michael Barnett, Christopher Casey, and Allison Phillips (Sean). Also survived by five great-grandchildren.

Family will receive friends at the family-owned BEALL FUNERAL HOME, 6512 NW Crain Hwy. (Rte. 3 South), Bowie, MD on Tuesday, April 5, 2016 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 pm.

A funeral service will be held at Community United Methodist Church, 1690 Riedel Rd., Crofton, MD on Wednesday, April 6, 2016 at 10 a.m. Interment, Crownsville Veterans Cemetery. If desired, contributions may be made to Community United Methodist Church.


Ken was the "U" sorter in the ARRL Third Call Area Incoming QSL Bureau for almost ten years. He was a member of the DXCC Honor Roll. He was a proud member of QCWA and had operated overseas in Germany and Japan in the aftermath of World War II.

Grew up in Kansas and originally licensed as WØUUW in 1954. Was career Air Force and held the following calls around the world: KA2KM (Tokyo), KR6KM (Island of Okinawa), DL5KM (Zweibrucken, Germany), DA1KM (Darmstadt & Augsburg, Germany). In 1968, traded WØUUW in for W5RFQ and held that call until 1997 when I traded it for W3RFQ.

My Father was WØYOS (SK).

After retiring from the Air Force, I worked as a Realtor for 20 years retiring in 1998.

Equipment used: Icom 756 PRO III, Icom 706 MK II G, Ameritron ALS-600, and a HEX-Beam HX-5B.
Awards held: DXCC, WAS, WAZ and WAC.
Belong to Clubs: RCC, ARRL, QCWA and OOTC.
