John Anthony Murray, 80, passed away on Sunday, August 9, 2020 at Oconee Memorial Hospital.

He was the son of the late John A. Murray and Mary Helen (Strohecker) Murray.

John was a life-time learner and held an Associate Degree in Computer Science, Bachelor.s degree in Electronic Engineering and General Science and a Master.s degree in Management Science. He retired after thirty-nine years of service in the U.S. Department of the Treasury. He had a very diverse tenure with opportunities to serve various government agencies, including the FAA, ATF, Department of Defense and Joint Chiefs of Staff, including ten years with the Intelligence Community.

After retirement, he left DC for the mountains that he loved, settling in his residency in Oconee County. He had the privilege of continuing his love of service as the Emergency Communications Director for Oconee County. He was a member of Open Door Baptist Church.

John held many active memberships in organizations, committing his time and advocacy to many projects and causes. He had an outgoing personality with a heart as huge as the Stetson hat that he always wore. His genuine concern for people was widely known and because of the natural ripple effect, his kindness touched the lives of many.

John is survived by his wife, Marcia Murray, Daughter Linda Stubs (Jim), Daughter Lisa Cudmore (Don), Son (Harry Reeves) and Grandson.s Heath, Aaron and Allen, Andrew, Michael, Christopher and Patrick.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held Saturday, August 15th at 2:00pm at Davenport Funeral Home, 311 S. Hwy 11, West Union, SC 29696. For those unable to attend, you may go to Davenport Funeral Home's Facebook page to watch live stream.
