Walter H. Key died on Wednesday July 19, 2017 after a long illness at the Abraham House in Utica, NY. He was 86 years old. He was born in Brooklyn, NY on June 14, 1931. He served 4 years in the US Navy in the early 1950s. He had a varied career as a Marine Radio Telegrapher for McKay Radio, Radio Officer on merchant ships, Volunteer Fireman and Fire Chief, and Police Officer. He was a retired Police Sergeant. Walt was an avid ham radio operator and enjoyed sending and receiving CW. He could copy at least 50 wpm. Walt was also the founder of the 7 to 9 Net. Walt was licensed as W2DES in 1949 and has held that call ever since.
