Earl Franklin Weidman, 85, died Saturday, March 21, 2020, at Hospice House. He was born September 7, 1934, in Wagoner, OK, to Irl and Dewey (Robertson) Weidman. Earl grew up in Wagoner until his senior year of high school, when his father, who worked for the Missouri Pacific Railroad was transferred to Coffeyville. He then graduated from Coffeyville High School in 1952. In 1954, Earl joined the United State Navy, assigned to the USS Lincoln County, LST 898, as a Radioman 2nd Class during the Korean War. After he was honorably discharged from the Navy, he attended Pittsburg State University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Physics and Math. Earl then attended Colorado State University for advanced training. After graduation, Earl taught one year at Phillipsburg High School. In 1961, he moved to Hutchinson to be an instructor at Hutchinson Community College, where he worked for 35 years, until his retirement in 1996. While there, Earl designed a new program in electrical/electronic technology. In the late 1970s, as a holder of the FCC issued First Class Broadcast Engineer's license, he upgraded the college radio station, KHCC from a low power student lab station to a full power FM broadcast station. He was a charter member of Countryside Baptist Church, and continued to be active in serving the church until his death. Earl was well-known for his Sunday school lessons, bringing his college classroom demeanor and skills into the Sunday school classroom. On December 27, 1959, he married Julia Dove in Parsons. They shared over 60 years of marriage. Earl is survived by: his wife, Julia of Hutchinson; two sons, David of Mount Vernon, TX, Steven of Houston, TX; four grandchildren, Amber of Mount Vernon, TX, Michael, stationed in the United States Air Force in Okinawa, Japan, Matthew, in the United States Navy Submarine Service, and Kristen of Houston, TX; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother. Celebration of Life will be held at a later date at Countryside Baptist Church, 819 W. 30th Avenue, Hutchinson, with Pastor Ron Kyker and Cliff Kirk officiating. Burial will follow in Fairlawn Burial Park, Hutchinson, with military honors conducted by the United States Navy Honor Guard. Friends may sign the book from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday, March 23, 2020, through Saturday, March 28, 2020, at Elliott Mortuary.
