"Arthur David Ragan, 83, of Stendal, died at 1 am Thursday, August 14, 2008, following a courageous battle with cancer."

"He was born April 11, 1925, in the town of Mt. Vernon, IL, Jefferson County, to the late Arthur Wallace and Detsyle Judith (Coleman) Ragan. In 1933, David's parents moved to Princeton, IN, where he graduated from Princeton High School in 1942. In WWII, he served in the US. Marine Corps as a combat marine PFC with the 4th Marine Division in the campaigns of Saipan, Tinian, and Iwo Jima."

"He graduated from the University of Evansville in 1949 and from The Ohio State University in Columbus, OH, with a master's degree in Community Organization for Social Welfare. He graduated from the Command and General Staff College in 1972. He retired from the US Army Reserve in 1978 attaining the rank of Lt. Colonel and receiving the Meritorious Service Award. The Missouri House of Reps. honored Arthur with a Resolution of Tribute on Feb. 26, 1986 whereupon he retired to a farm near Stendal, IN."

"He was employed by the Greenville SC Community Chest and Council as Associate Director from 1951-53; the Metropolitan Atlanta Community Services "

"He was a member of Cup Creek Baptist Church and served as a Deacon. He was a life member of the Southern IN Leathernecks Detachment of the Marine Corps League, Jasper, IN; the Prince Lodge No. 231 F&AM ... and many civic and military organizations. He enjoyed flying as a private pilot and other outdoor activities."

"Davis is survived by his wife sons daughter and three grandchildren "

"Funeral services were at 2 pm Sunday Aug 17, 2008 at Nass and Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg with Rev. Jeff Crowe officiating. Burial was in the Cup Creek Cemetery. VFW Post #2366 Honor Guard and a Marine Corps Honor Detail conducted military graveside rites. A Marine Corps memorial service was also conducted at 7 pm Sat. at the funeral home. Visitation was from 4 to 8 pm Saturday and also from noon until 2 pm Sunday at the funeral home."
