First got interested in radio when he was residing in the United Kingdom, hometown is Bedford in Bedforshire. Nationality: British
Main interests are operating on 50MHz, satellite and weak signal work. Very active on 6M and have studied various propagation modes on this band for 2 solar cycles. First operator in Hong Kong to ever work all continents on 6M.
Other radio interests include 144MHz terrestrial SSB operation and have had previous experience with Earth-moon-earth (EME) operation on 2M. Built and operated his own systems and yagi-uda antennas, very low noise pre-amplifiers, power amplifiers, transverters, converters and transceivers. Modes of operation interested include: SSB, SSTV, ATV, AMTOR, PACTOR, PSK, RTTY, FAX, FM, AM & PACKET RADIO. Also likes to collect old amateur radios (boat anchors) like Collins, Hallicrafters, Drake, Swan, Heathkit etc.
By profession, is a Chief Manager in charge of Facilities Management with a large international firm of property consultants and is a registered property manager and licensed real estate agent. A member of the British Institute of Facilities Management and a member of the Institute of Assets Management. Have won many awards and accolades in property management. He is also a multiple time recipient for the Chairman's Award for Excellence when he worked at Savllis Property Management Limited previously.
Other interests include: Archery, Darts, Golf, Scuba, Ten-pin Bowling, Hiking, Sailing, Photography, Model Railroading, Wine Tasting and Cooking. Registered with the Hong Kong Golf Association and current handicap is around 23. Member of D'ker darts club.
He has helped with co-ordination of rescue and safety of hikers for such events like the 100 Km Trail Walker Hike, 50 Km Green Power Hike and the Raleigh International Mountain Marathon, these events are for charity. In addition has assisted in the organisation of the Professions Sevens Rugby Tournanment for many years.
Past Hon. Secretary of Hong Kong Amateur Radio Transmitting Society, founding member and past Hon. Secretary of Hong Kong Amateur Radio DX Association and represented the association in all dealings with the local Government. Member of 50MHz.com of Brazil. Steve was elected as the Hong Kong National Chapter Chairman of No-Code International on 2nd October, 2002, the organisation is asking for the abolishment of Morse code as a requirement for Amateur Radio Licensing. Steven is a Founding Fellow and was elected first treasurer to the Board of Directors of the Institute of Shopping Center Management in Hong Kong. He has been quoted in various magazine articles on shopping centre management including Forbes magazine.
Steven has also written in past for many hi-end hifi journals and was resident reviewer for many publications. He has designed and built many audiophile grade components including single-ended pre and power amplifiers(tube and solid state), tube type electrostastic headphone amplifier for STAX headphones, MC tube type preamplifiers for analog, Speakers using JBL and Altec Lansing drivers and horns. He likes Jazz and R & B.
Interested in eSSB audio processing using a Behringer MIC200 Ultragain tube preamplifier to a W2IHY 8 band equalizer and EQplus processor, Behringer Shark DSP-110, Behringer FBQ-800 EQ and Behringer FEX-800 enhancer. ART Tube MP Studio Mic Preamp also used. Primary microphones used are Yaesu MD-200A8X, Kam RT-1 (Ribbon Tone), Heil HM-10 with dual elements HC4&5, M Audio Sound Check dynamic mic., Marantz DM-20 dynamic mic., Pioneer professional BC-28A and MXL-990 Condenser mic. with shock mount and boom. Rigs used for eSSB include Yaesu FT-2000, FT-920 and Kenwood TS-870S.
