CANDY, Austin Edward - ('A SILENT KEY' - VE1BF/VE2QC/VE7KX) July 8, 1918 - August 23, 2014
We sadly announce the passing of our dear Dad, Austin (Ozzie) Candy. He passed away peacefully on Saturday at the age of 96, at St. Mary's of the Lake Hospital, Kingston, ON.

Austin was born in London, England, the only child of Lionel & Rose Candy, grandson of Sir Edward Townshend Candy and Lady Candy.

Austin's pares moved to Calgary when he was a baby. He graduated from high school in Calgary and joined the RCAF for a short time, later joining the RCMP as a radio operator and was stationed on the HMS 'ADVERSUS'. After leaving the RCMP, he joined TCA in Winnipeg as a flight dispatcher for the new airline. He married his wife (of 68 years) Irene Lewis (a TCA stewardess) in Winnipeg. While employed at TCA later Air Canada, they lived in Toronto, Montreal, Moncton & Vancouver (where he retired). Austin & Irene lived in six of Canada's provinces and have travelled the world for both work and pleasure.

Austin has always enjoyed 'ham radio' and talked to all corners of the world, establishing lifelong friends.

Austin's leisure time was spent fishing playing tennis, golfing, boating, gardening, bridge & cribbage.

He was also a founding member & past minister of Meridien Lodge in Montreal, as well as a Shriner.

On retirement, he volunteered as a 'Green Coat' at Vancouver airport assisting travellers.

Austin and Irene (deceased) had three daughters, Joan Bisaillon (late Gerry), Susan Procter (deceased) (Bryan) and Wendy Fox (Calvin). Nine grandchildren: Scott Helm, Lynne Bridge, Gary Helm, Sherry Bisaillon, Carol Bisaillon, Gerry Bisaillon, David Barras, Lianne Barras, Robert Barras, and 12 great grandchildren.

If you so desire, donations may be made to the Shriner's Children's Hospital, Montreal, QC in Austin's memory.

Cremation has taken place, a private graveside interment will take place at Cataraqui Cemetery at a later date.
A Celebration of Austin's life will be held at the Royale Retirement Residence, September 6th, 2014 from 2pm-4pm.
