Standing Committee

This section is currently being developed. Please stay tuned for updates on the standing committee.

Definition:

Standing committees are permanent bodies constituted to perform a continuing function for the duration of the assembly that establishes them. Typically, members serve for a term concurrent with the officers, or until successors are chosen, in accordance with the bylaws or other specific provisions. Such committees are established by name either by a bylaw provision or by a resolution that acts as a special rule of order. Formation of standing committees may necessitate prior notice and a two-thirds vote, or a majority vote of the entire membership. Their responsibilities include considering, investigating, and acting upon matters or subjects assigned to them, and they may hold the authority to act on behalf of the society within their defined scope, refer relevant business to themselves automatically, or influence procedural rules.
