Since 1978Helping amateurs pursue education

Your next step starts here

A radio license. A recommendation.
An opportunity to go further.

Our scholarships connect amateur radio with continuing education. Newly licensed hams are welcome—you do not need 25 years as an amateur to apply.

Who can apply?

Students holding any active amateur radio license class.
Applicants in the United States or abroad, as provided in the QCWA scholarship listing.
Students in any field of study at an accredited two- or four-year college, university, or trade school.
Graduate students are also eligible.
A recommendation from a current QCWA member is required.

Review the current ARRL scholarship descriptions and application instructions for complete requirements. Meeting the requirements does not guarantee an award.

In memory of our Silent Keys

Honoring a legacy of giving.

The QCWA Memorial Scholarship Fund was established at the 1977 QCWA Convention in Seattle, following discussions between President Frank Gunther, W2ALS, and President-elect Harry Gartsman, W6ATC. The first scholarship was awarded in 1978. The fund honors members whose service and generosity continue to benefit amateur radio.

A few helpful answers

Scholarship questions, answered.

Do I need to be a QCWA member?

The QCWA scholarship listing requires a recommendation from a current QCWA member. It does not require the applicant to have been licensed for 25 years or to be a QCWA member.

Do I have to study engineering or radio technology?

No. The QCWA scholarship has no preferred field of study. Review the current ARRL listing for institution and application requirements.

Who handles applications and award decisions?

The ARRL Foundation administers the application and selection process. Submit your application and required supporting documents through its official program page.

Where can I get the next opening date and deadline?

Visit ARRL’s scholarship program page for the current schedule. As of the October 4, 2026 check, that page still lists the 2026 cycle as closed; the next cycle’s dates are not confirmed here.
