(BEDFORD, NH., June 27, 2005) - The Guglielmo Marconi Foundation will present the Marconi Pioneer Award to Jeanne Hammond on Aug. 6, 2005. Hammond was chosen to receive the award for her work and association with Ma]. Edwin Howard Armstrong, her uncle, whose inventions transformed broadcasting and wireless telecommunications. The award will be presented during a banquet at the Doubletree Hotel in Portland, Maine.
Donna Halper, a Boston-based media historian and one of the editors of the Boston Radio Archives, a project that covers New England, will headline the banquet program. Halper, also a radio programming consultant who has authored three books, will highlight her talk with Armstrong memorabilia from her collection.
The program also includes Arch Doty (W7ACD), who saw Armstrong's FM transmitter prototype firsthand; and Ray Minichiello (WIBC), president of the Foundation. A video made especially for the banquet will commemorate highlights of the decades Hammond spent with Armstrong.
The banquet is set for 6 PM at the Doubletree Hotel, 1230 Congress St, Portland, Maine
Tickets are $30 and may be purchased in advance from:
