First Call: KA5MPL issued in 1982
Here is a summary of what I've been doing for the past 40 odd years after my time in the military.
Prior to retiring I worked with both mainframe and personal computers, which included everything from computer programming, to installation, to trouble shooting, to staff training. As mentioned earlier, this was not in my career plan. I didn't realize it at the time but my plans were changed when I was asked to be on a project team installing a new mainframe software package for the accounting area of the bank.
As each bank area began taking advantage of software packages specific to their area, I found myself on one project team after another. Each software installation took many months of planning, testing, staff training and support. The years flew by. Then came PCs. More years flew by as the earlier processes were repeated on PCs. Additionally, I don't know how this happened, but I became responsible for developing and implementing disaster recovery plans for specific bank areas and ended up speaking on the subject at several bank conferences. More years flew by.
I eagerly took early retirement as I was physically and mentally exhausted. After retiring I would have nothing to do with computers. Instead, after a few years of doing nothing I become a state (North Carolina) certified volunteer Medicare counselor. It was something I really enjoyed doing, but Covid-19 brought that to a screeching halt.
