John Henry Dinkelman went home to be with his sweetheart on their wedding anniversary, October 9, 2011.Born October 8, 1924 in Den Helder, North Holland to Hendrick and Jacoba Wachter Dinkelman.Married Alice Marie DiDonato on October 9, 1949; later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple.A true patriot, John served his country from Normandy Beach on D Day (the Battle of the Bulge), Belgium, Czechoslovakia, Japan, Turkey, and two tours in Vietnam. He was proud to retire in 1978 (thirty-five years, nine months, nineteen days).He loved ham radios, was involved in many nets and was always quick to "work traffic" in an emergency, never leaving the station until the last call was handled.He deeply loved the Lord and showed his love by serving others. He believed that your time on this earth isn't free and that you need to "pay the dues". He was always the first to run to someone's aid.

He is the proud father of Jan (Jim), Jerry (Bevelee), and John (Elizabeth); ten grandchildren; and four beautiful great-grandchildren. KC7AW signing off.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 15, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. in the Cottonwood Heights Fifth Ward Chapel, 7075 South 2245 East.

A viewing will be held on Friday, October 14, 2011 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road (1700 West), and Saturday at the church from 10:00-10:45 a.m.Interment: Mountain View Memorial Estates.Published in the Deseret News on October 13, 2011.
