Candidate for Secretary
My name is Ron Fish, KX1W, and I'm running for QCWA Secretary.

I was first licensed in 1971 as WN1OQT in New Haven, CT, where I was reared. I received my General ticket (WB1BWG) two weeks after graduation from Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) with a BS in Electrical Engineering in 1978. I rarely used that call as I upgraded to Advanced (KD6IT) and then Amateur Extra (NF6D) while working in the Aerospace industry in Southern California. My current and last call is KX1W, which I received in 1984 when I relocated back to New England.

I have been in the Aerospace industry for 40 years, as an avionics systems engineer, and for the past 35 years, in sales and marketing. I have worked for Boeing, Northrop, and Lockheed Martin, in addition to small and medium-sized firms. Currently I am a Business Development Manager at an aerospace division of Ametek.

I was active in the WPI Radio Club, W1YK, although primarily as a SWL since my license had lapsed during my college years. I am a past president of the Northrop Radio Club (then W6VPZ, now WI6NG), a past president of the Los Angeles Area Council of Amateur Radio Clubs, and I was the first Affiliated Club Coordinator in the Los Angeles Section of the ARRL when they introduced the expanded field appointments. I was also one of the operators at the 1984 Olympic Village commemorative station in Los Angeles. In 2006, I earned a Masters in Business Administration from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI).

I am a Life Member of ARRL, QCWA, and OOTC. I have been on the Publications Committee of QCWA for a number of years; I am the principal proofreader for both the QCWA Journal and the QCWA webpage. I have also been the QCWA Silent Key Administrator since April 1, 2016, and I have (at this writing) found almost 4,300 QCWA members who are now Silent Keys. I was one of the official QCWA headquarters stations in the 2019 QCWA QSO Party. I am the recipient of two QCWA Presidential Awards (2011 and 2018).

I am the Affiliated Club Coordinator for the Eastern New York Section of the ARRL, responsible for the 30 affiliated clubs in my Section. I am also the Director of Region 2 of OOTC. I am President of QCWA 226, and a member of Chapters 46 and 181.

I have been active on the HF bands since the ARRL bicentennial, on AM, SSB, and CW. I plan to expand to digital modes in the future. I have recently earned WAS and DXCC on phone, and currently have 41 states and 11 countries confirmed on CW.
