Paul Richard Poteet December 24, 1930 - October 07, 2021 Paul Richard Poteet, 90, of Macon, MO passed away on Thursday, October 7, 2021 at the University Hospital in Columbia, MO.

Paul was born on December 24, 1930 in Macon, the son of Jesse and Joanna (Miles) Poteet. He was united in marriage to Marjorie Todd in 1950, she preceded him in death in 2005. He later married Sharon Bruner Poteet on June 6, 2008 in Macon. Paul was baptized in 1946 and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Macon.

He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1949 and served one-year active duty aboard the USS Pickaway, then he was in the reserve for four years and in 1952 he was recalled to active duty during the Korean Conflict and served two years aboard the USS W.T. Powell.

Paul spent 59 years in his profession as a printer doing the work he loved. Thirty of those years were with the Macon Chronicle-Herald and 29 years as co-owner of ABC Printers with his business partner, Jack Hearrold, until their retirement in 2009.

Paul was a charter member of Macon Jaycees, where he served as President in 1956, served two terms as city councilman in Ward 4, member of American Legion Post 29, and a former commander, Master Mason Censer Lodge 172 and received a 50-year pin in 2012. He was a longtime member of Macon County Amateur Radio Club. He was a lifetime member of the Missouri Bow Hunters Association, where he published and edited the state bow hunters publication “The Release” for 43 years. Through the years, his interest were target archery, pistol shooting, photography, and enjoying his cabin on “Tick Ridge” for 20 years. Most of all, was his love for purple martins.

Paul is survived by his wife, Sharon, of the home; five nephews, George Poteet, Herschel Poteet, Miles Poteet, Eric Poteet, and Nicolas Poteet; two nieces, Cheryl Bloomfield and Nathalie Poteet; and several great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Herschel, Tom, Maurice, and Ronald; and one infant brother, Donald.

Funeral service will be held 10:00 am, Wednesday, October 13, 2021 at the Hutton & McElwain Funeral Home in Macon, with Bro. Jim Bolin officiating. Burial, with full military honors, will be in the Oakwood Cemetery in Macon. Visitation will be Tuesday evening, from 4:00 to 7:00 pm, at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials to the Samaritan Hospital Wellness Center.
