I have been licensed as WNØQM 1971-1973 (Novice), WBØEY 1973-1987 (General-Advanced-Extra), WV7T 1987-present (Extra), and 9H3GA 1986 (Malta). Navy MARS operator NNNØGT.

I am blessed to be married to a ham, Rhoda, KNØFP 1959-1960 (Novice), KB2BZY 1985-present (Novice-Technician), 9H3GB 1986 (Malta).

A retired Navy Chief Petty Officer (Electrician's Mate), I served for 22 years as a Ship's Electrician aboard 2 destroyers (FF), amphibious support ships (LPD-LHA), aircraft carrier (CVN), submarine repair ship (AS), and a cruiser (CG). On December 7th, 1991, I operated KH6SP on Ford Island in the center of Pearl Harbor during the 50th anniversary of the Pearl Harbor bombing. On our 25th anniversary trip to Oahu Hawaii (8-14-04) Rhoda and I were given the opportunity to operate KH6BB aboard the battleship USS Missouri BB-63 moored at Ford Island. I was also Chief MARS operator on 2 ships.

I operate QRP and have earned DXCC-QRP; WAC-QRP; WAS-QRP CW, WAS-QRP SSB, WAS-QRP PSK31, WAS-QRP PSK-31, WAS-QRP JT-65, WAS-QRP JT-9, WAS-QRP RTTY #2, 1000-Mile-Per-Watt award.

I am the Technical Education and Licensing Coordinator for the Pikes Peak Radio Amateur Association of Colorado Springs, Colorado (joined in 1971). As the PPRAA Senior license instructor I teach Technician, General, Morse Code, and hands-on skills. I have taught ham radio since 1972. In the mid 80s I was stationed in Sicily and operated atop Europe's most active volcano, Mt Etna...bad idea!
