Don Juehring, 79, of Iowa Falls, Iowa, passed away Thursday, March 10, 2011, at Ellsworth Municipal Hospital, Iowa Falls.
Don Harry Juehring was born at home, April 8, 1931, at Oxford Junction, Iowa to Harry and Vlasta [Paulista] Juehring. Don graduated in 1949 from Oxford Junction High School. He was active in sports and continued in semi-pro baseball for the Iowa Cubs and also semi-pro basketball until he was drafted into the Army Signal Corp during the Korean War. He married Jackie Pazour at Garner, Iowa on February 5, 1951. To this union a daughter was born: Jyll. After the death of Don's first wife, Jackie in 1998, he was united in marriage to Joan Brinkmeyer Robbins in 2001.
Don was employed by IES for over 40 years, retiring in 1991, obtaining Electric Journeyman status in 3 areas; Lineman, Substation, and Metering. He was an amateur Radio "Ham" operator for over 40 years. Radio Patching calls from service personnel overseas in Vietnam War to parents or loved ones in the United States. He enjoyed talking with people around the world.
Don was a member of St. Mark Parish, Iowa Falls; American Radio Relay League, Webster City; Ham Radio Club, Frank McGivney Knights of Columbus Council # 5835, Iowa Falls; Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge # 1674, Iowa Falls; Iowa Falls Sportsman Club; International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers of America; Meadow Hills Golf Club; and Hyman-Peavey American Legion Post #188, Iowa Falls.
