I was licensed while in high school in 1962 and have had the same call since transitioning from novice to general in 1963. After ten years of inactivity I was bitten by the ham radio bug again in 2008 and upgraded from advanced to extra in 2010.

My equipment includes an Icom 756 pro III with a Heil PR781 microphone, an Acom 1000 amplifier, and a Palstar AT2K tuner. Antennas include a Mosley Classic 33 triband yagi on a sixty foot Universal aluminum tower and an Alpha Delta DX-A twin sloper for 160, 80, 40, and 17. Logging is done on a MacBook with McLogger DX software. I like to chase DX, but what I really enjoy is meeting new people and learning about their interests. I'm a member of the Mahaska Amateur Radio Club and the Ottumwa Amateur Radio Club, and I'm a volunteer examiner.

My other hobbies include aviation and trains. I'm a pilot and fly a Cessna Cardinal. I have loved trains all my life, and for the last twenty years I have been building an HO model railroad. Any model railroader will tell you that it is never completely finished.

I enjoyed a career as an independent insurance agent specializing in commercial property and casualty insurance. I retired in 2013 and now have more time to spend on my hobbies and to travel with my XYL of 46 plus years.

73, Steve
