Daniel Ludwig Schobert, 71, went to be with his Lord on Nov. 24, 2011, at St. Michael's Hospital.

Daniel was born in Mountain Lake, Minn. on Feb. 2, 1940. He lived in several cities in Mich., graduating from Hillsdale High School in 1958. He attended Northern Baptist Seminary in Chicago, transferring to Michigan State University, graduating in 1964, with a degree in communications.

Daniel was married to Mildred Evelyn Bell in 1959 in Hillsdale, Mich. He worked as a radio announcer at WCSR, WYCA, WIAA and WLDR before going to work at WSPT in Stevens Point as a news editor in 1970. He served as Director of Training at Trans American School of Broadcasting in Wausau, leaving there in 1972. He then drove over the road trucking for 18 years for Moodie, Inc. in Plover. In 1995 he and his wife, Millie, started Pointours, LLC, a bus company. For 13 years, they transported children to and from school, shuttled for St. Michael's Hospital, and did many weddings and tours.

Daniel was a founding member of the Stevens Point Evangelical Free Church, which later became Woodlands Church.

He was a board member of Youth for Christ in the 1970's. He wrote and produced a radio show, "Creation Report" on WGNV, and had a cable access TV show, "The Show". He was an avid researcher in Creation Research and was a contributor to a book on Creation.

Daniel's hobbies included amateur radio. He was a member of the Quarter Century Wireless Assn., a member of Central Wisconsin Amateurs, serving as a president for one year. He participated in many contests and field days. He was also a member of the Northern Gateway Barbershoppers, serving as VP of Marketing for the local chapter and also for the Great Lakes District. He also enjoyed camping with his family. Daniel also wrote over 800 articles and letters to the Editors for the Amy Foundation, Stevens Point Journal, Portage County Gazette, the Examiner, and the Harmonizer.

Daniel is survived by his wife; his children, Gary (Jayne) Simmons of Aloha, Ore., Phillip (Lisa) Schobert of Anchorage, Alaska, Scott Schobert of Plover, Dawn (Thomas) Hurning of Harshaw, and Jeffrey (Meta) Schobert of Stevens Point; 13 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, William (Thelma) of Lansing, Mich, and Timothy of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.He was preceded in death by his father, William; mother Mabel; and brother, Hugo.

A memorial service will be held Friday at 11 a.m., Dec. 2, 2011, at Woodlands Church, 190 Hoover Rd., Plover, with The Rev. Brian Berg officiating.
