Chapter 190

I began my amateur radio career/hobby/service/journey when I was 15 years old. I took a 14 week class in Minden, Nevada. I got my first ticket issued on my 16th birthday, a Novice Class. I took the course because my friend was taking it and thought it would be cool to learn a bit more about electronics and radios. Before I knew it I passed my first written and 5wpm code exams.

I got involved fairly early on with assisting in the communcations for the Pony Express Re-ride the following year and joining the two amateur radio clubs in the Carson / Tahoe area at the time, Sierra Intermountain Emergency Radio Association and the Tahoe Amateur Radio Association.

Through the years I have been involved with clubs and activities and today serve on the board of directors for the Sierra Nevada Amateur Radio Soceity, Inc. and serve as the treasurer and education coordinator where I help to coordinate educational courses and workshops. I am also involved with the ARRL Nevada Section - Nevada State Convention - (NVCON) and serve on the planning committee. And finally I am a Volunteer Examinar for both ARRL and W5YI VE Teams.

You can find me on the air waves 40 through 10 meters on a KX3 and a simple inverted v dipole. I will also be active with Summits on the Air this year and hope to be able to climb and activate a few mountain peaks in California and Nevada.
