Richard N. Toomey, 84, passed away at 2:10 a.m. on Wednesday, January 15, 2003 at York Hospital. He was the husband of Florence V. (Rohrbaugh) Toomey, who passed away July 8, 1984. He is survived by one brother, John H. Toomey, York; two sisters, Ruth A. Bechtel, Harlingen, Texas; Dorothy E. Toomey, Hanover and a companion of 18 years, Geraldine M. Stauch, York. Mr. Toomey was born on June 3, 1918 in York to the late Noah J. and Ella M. (Rider) Toomey.

He was a charter member of the Church of the Open Door, York. He was a machinist for 31 years, retiring in 1975, from the Mechanicsburg Depot and a former employee of the Ordinance Plant of York. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII as a MM. He was a member of Keystone Radio Operators, W3JIF.

Funeral service will be on Monday, January 20th at 11 a.m. from the Church of the Open Door, 8 Carlisle Court, York. Officiating will be his pastor, Rev. Dr. David E. Sutter and Rev. Donald C. Wagner from the Word of Life Chapel, Bainbridge, Pa. Burial will be in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens. There will be no viewing. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the church.
