W1LIC - Wesley L. 'Wes' Linscott

This station is operated in loving memory of my Dad, Reginald F. Linscott (1918-1996), who was W1LIC for 58 years. I am proud to have his call.

In addition to my Dad, other Elmers who helped me in getting started in ham radio were Fred "Hank" Grindle K1SRE, Bob Day K1LLN, Bert Austin W1DAS, and Jim Moore W1CX. All are Silent Keys.

I was first licensed as a Novice in 1967 with the call WN1IOG in Ellsworth, Maine. After upgrading to General in 1968 I became WA1IOG, and then in 1982 changed my call to N1BIR. After upgrading to Advanced and then Extra in 1987 I was NI1Y. I received the vanity call N1WL in 1996 but only had it until January 1998 when I decided to get my Dad's call, W1LIC.

I am a former US Navy Radioman First Class and a retired dispatcher for the Maine State Police. My wife and I relocated from Maine to Florida in 2012. We have three grown kids and have been blessed with five granddaughters and five grandsons.

These days I am active mostly on straight key CW using a Yaesu FT-450D to a Hustler mobile antenna attached to our mobile home. I have been happy with how well the antenna has worked. I believe that the aluminum of the mobile home acts as a counterpoise. Occasionally I'll use the keyer/paddles but I much prefer the straight key. I use a Yaesu FT-2900R for 2-meter FM. There is a photo below of my massive antenna farm. :-)

In my retirement I also am an avid reader, enjoy classical and easy-listening music, and watch a little football (college and NFL). I cheer for the New England Patriots as well as the University of Florida Gators and the Navy Midshipmen.

I am a member of the Highlands County Amateur Radio Club (W4HCA) which operates the 147.045 (PL100) repeater located on the Happiness Tower in Lake Placid. I also am a member of the Highlands County Chapter #121 of the Quarter Century Wireless Association (QCWA).

I prefer using Logbook of the World for confirming contacts. Also upload all to eQSL. Paper card is available upon request although I no longer desire to receive QSL cards. If you want mine, save your card and postage and just send me an email request. I then will send you my card (USA only). I generally don't use QSL bureaus.
