Vernon G. 'Vern' Pribyl
Vernon Gordon Pribyl was born on October 1, 1920, in Lakefield, Jackson County, Minnesota. He was the son of Frank and Veronica (Pietsch) Pribyl. Vernon was baptized as an infant, and later confirmed in his faith as an adult at Peace Lutheran Church in Hutchinson, Minnesota. He was a graduate of the Lakefield High School Class of 1938, where he was active in music and sports. Vernon entered active military service in the United States Army Air Force on May 22, 1941, and served his country in the Aleutian Islands during World War II. He received an Honorable Discharge on September 30, 1945.
On March 10, 1944, Vernon was united in marriage to Myra Schuldt in Austin, Minnesota. This marriage was blessed with two sons, Michael and Douglas. Vernon and Myra resided in Hutchinson, Minnesota. They shared 68 years of marriage.
Vernon was employed at the Hutchinson Leader before starting his own business, Standard Printing in Hutchinson, which he owned and operated until 1967. After selling Standard Printing, he continued to be active in the printing trade before retiring as office manager at Rutz Plumbing and Heating in Hutchinson. Vernon was a charter member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Hutchinson, a member of Hutchinson American Legion Post #96 and was a past volunteer member of the Hutchinson Fire Department.
Vernon was a Ham Radio Operator with the call sign, WØOMC. He liked to build and tinker with computers and radios. He always enjoyed challenging himself and loved to solve problems. Vernon especially enjoyed spending time with his family, grandchildren, great grandchild and friends.
When Vernon needed assistance with his daily care, he became a resident of Burns Manor Nursing Home in Hutchinson, Minnesota on September 16, 2004. Vernon passed away Monday, April 9, 2012, at Harmony River Living Center in Hutchinson, Minnesota, at the age of 91 years.

Vernon is survived by his: Wife, Myra Pribyl of Hutchinson, MN; Son, Douglas Pribyl and his wife, Caroledith Olsen of Minneapolis, MN; Grandchildren, Lori Avila and her husband, John, Jeremy Pribyl and his wife, Brenda, Blaine Pribyl; Great-Grandchild, Melody Avila; Brother, Frank Pribyl and his wife, Marianne of Stevenville, MI; Brother-In-Law, John Lenberg of Minneapolis, MN; Many other relatives and friends.
Vernon is preceded in death by his Parents, Frank and Veronica Pribyl; Son, Michael Pribyl; Brothers, Bernard Pribyl and his wife, Dodgie, Adrian Pribyl and his wife, Roalene; Sisters, Dolores Lenberg, Gloria Voss and her husband, Arlo.
Vernon Pribyl, WØOMC age 91 died Monday this week at Harmony River Living Center. He was most interested in CW, home brew projects, and was a pioneer in 2 meter packet radio. During World War II Vern (the name he preferred) served in the Armed Forces and repaired military communication radios.
For many years he provided printing services to this community especially 3M and Hutch Technology through his company Standard Printing. In the early 1990's Vern was an important contributor to the early formation of Crow River Amateur Radio Club. In 1994 to 2000 + prior to his health problems Vern would announce his coming to CRARC Field Days by sending Morse Code on his car horn. We would look up from our Field Day projects and exclaim "Did you hear that Morse Code, that's Vern, WØOMC!"
The Funeral Service is Friday April 13 at 2 PM. Visitation is one hour before the Church Service at Our Savior Lutheran.
