I was born and raised in a small unincorporated village called Gladstone, MN (the railroad called it Gloster). Many years later it was incorporated and renamed Maplewood and I still live here. However, my mailing address is St. Paul as Maplewood has no post office. I graduated from North St. Paul, MN high school in 1946 and from Business School in St. Paul two years later. I worked for the Northern Pacific Ry. in the dining car serice, the St. Paul Union Depot Co., a building material company as traffic manager and purchasing agent and retired from the County Parks and Recreation Department after 26 years. I was in the Army Signal Corps in 1950-52 and operated as DL4HQ from Heidelberg, Germany. The big thrill in DXing in those days was working the USA on 75 meter AM phone. Another hobby that keeps me busy is railfanning. I volunteer as a Conductor for the Minnesota Transportation Museum on their trains operating out of Osceola, WI. The printing shop is out of business and I no longer print QSL cards. November 18, 2008 |
