I became a ham in 1973 at the age of 15, back in Windsor, Ontario (VE3HCN). I enjoyed ham radio until going away to University in 1976 where there was no time for hobbies. It wasn't until August of 2004 that I got back into ham radio. I found my old Kenwood TS-530S and operated CW, phone, and a little PSK31 for the first year back. In October 2005 I picked up a Yaesu FT-1000MP at a local flea market and have really enjoyed using a "modern rig". In early May of 2010 I bought a new FTDX-5000MP and am enjoying the latest technology. It drives my FL-7000 amp (about 500W max) and they work well together. Antennas include a TH6DXX at 40', a shunt-fed tower for 80/160m, and a SteppIR BigIR vertical for 80-10m.

Being a geophysicist and exploring for oil and gas all around the world has made for an interesting life. Too bad I didn't operate low bands when living in such places as Jakarta Indonesia, Sydney Australia, or Buenos Aires Argentina.

When I'm on the radio you can catch me most of the time on whatever band is open (160m-10m). My logbook says I make about 2/3 of my QSOs on CW, so I guess that is my favorite mode.
