LYONS, Dr. James Michael
April 16, 1927 - September 3, 2012
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dr. James Michael Lyons, at the age of 85, at the Lakeshore General Hospital in Pointe-Claire, on Monday September 3, 2012.

Jim was born in Fochabers, Scotland and studied at the University of Aberdeen, obtaining his undergraduate degree and a doctorate in Chemistry. After a 15 year scientific and administrative career in industry, he immigrated with family to Canada in 1967, where he began a second career in education. Based initially in Lachute, where he worked for the Laurentian Regional School Board, Jim became Chair of the Chemistry Department in the early years of Dawson College, then joined John Abbott College in 1971 as a founding member, serving as Coordinator of Science and Technologies, and taught Chemistry at JAC before retiring in 1996. Jim was a lifelong Amateur Radio enthusiast (VE2KN) and a dedicated volunteer with the St. Thomas a Becket food bank, and the St. Thomas a Becket Friends of St. Francis.

He will be greatly missed by his wife Margaret, daughter Anne, sons Michael and John (May), and his much loved grandchildren Christopher, Fiona, Meghan and Liam. They would like to express gratitude to the staff of the Lakeshore General Hospital for their compassionate care.

Family members will receive condolences on Saturday, September 8, 2012 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at St. Thomas a Becket church, 4320 Ste-Anne, Pierrefonds. A mass will follow at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Thomas a Becket parish in memory of James Lyons. May he rest in peace. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Voluntas (514-695-7979/www.voluntas.ca).
