N9GI - Mikeal R. 'Mike' Hughes

I have been a Ham since 1967 passing my novice exam as a freshman in High School. I got away from the hobby until 1974 when I was issued the call WB5RTV don't know why I ever change that call. In 1982 I went before the FCC took and past the General, Advanced and Extra Class licenses which included the 20 wpm code examination and was systematically issued the call I hated WF5P! That call has been reissued hope he likes it better than I did. In 2001 I "bit the bullet" and did a vanity callsign change to my current call N9GI.

Commercially I hold GROL since 1977. I first held the 2nd Class Radio Telephone with Radar Endorsement. Then in 1982 I past the 1st Class Radio Telephone license. I worked as a Broadcast Engineer from 1978 when I came out of the Air Force as an Assistant chief engineer at WMC in Memphis, TN and then as Chief Engineer for WJDX and WMSI in Jackson, MS. I then built one station, a new 100KW FM in Shreveport, LA and rebuilt an AM/FM in Shreveport, LA. In 2002 I past my 2nd Class Radio Telegraph License.

In 1986 I decided to begin my work as a Gospel Preacher. I then began working on finishing my college work. At that time I had an Associate of Arts degree (AA) in Religious Education from Ohio Valley College in Parkersburg, WV and an Associate of Arts degree (AA) from the Community College of the Air Force. I have since completed the following degrees. A Bachelors of Ministry (B.Min.), a Masters of Ministry (M.Min.), a Doctorate of Ministry (D.Min.) and a Doctorate of Thelogy (Th.D.). I hold the following computer certifications: Comptia A+, Comptia Network+, CEH, and MOS

While working full-time as a minister I have supplemented my income by working as a Computer Technician. While I was in Plano, IL I taught Computer Courses for Waubonsee Community College. Then when we moved to Lowell, IN I drove School Bus part-time as well as instructed the CDL program for the Tri-Creek School System. I also maintained a Local Area Network system for two H&R Block offices in Lowell and Cedar Lake, IN. While looking for a new congregation to work with I drove a Semi-Truck for a short time delivering Cabinets for SACO Industries of Lowell, IN. I continue to be an avid Macintosh user. While I was in Manteno, IL I was a Broadcast Engineer in charge of 5 radio stations. Also taught American History for Purdue University in West Lafayette, IN.
