N4JJ - Marion L. 'Jack' Jackson

Marion Lee 'Jack' Jackson, Jr, 66, of Florence, passed away on Monday, November 9, 2015.

Mr. Jackson was born in Sumter, SC, a son of Marion Lee Jackson, Sr. and Jessie Hodge Jackson. He was a manager with BellSouth and retired in 2002 after thirty-three years of employment. He was the past President and Secretary for the Florence Amateur Radio Club (call sign N4JJ), past Master and Secretary of Flintville Lodge #158 AFM and had served on the Board of Trustees and Finance Committee at Southside Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, surviving are his brother, Wade (Tracy) Jackson; sisters, Susan (Elton) Cochran and Paige (Marty) Bright; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mr. Jackson is predeceased by his wife, Brenda Herring Jackson.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 14, 2015, at Southside Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Florence Memorial Gardens directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home.

Family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. . 7:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.

First Licensed (at age 13) in 1962 as WN4LDM. N4JJ since 1977. Started chasing DX on 160 and 80 during the mid sixties. The five band awards actually sparked my interest in the higher bands and the DXCC Challenge. 160 Meter DXCC #13 in 1979. Enjoy Low Band DXing, QRP and antenna construction.Was a sorter for the ARRL W4 bureau for 23 years. Life Member of ARRL,QCWA and OOTC. Active on all bands 160 through 2 meters. Other activities include Deer Hunting on my farm (about five miles from my home),Masonic activities (Secretary of Flintville Lodge 158AFM for the past30+ years, Past Master and Past District Deputy Grand Master. Author of the history book-Flintville ) and my Church as a Sunday School Teacher, Deaconand other duties. God has been especially good to me. Retired after 33+ years service as a Manager for BellSouth Corporation in 2002. Graduated again in 2004 as a Paralegal. Still do contract Telecommunications work on a part time basis.I've met a lot of wonderful folks and made some cherished friendships through our great hobby,Amateur Radio. See you on the bands!
