Main Interests: QRP operating and DXing. I enjoy operating out of doors, especially during summer. A special interest is "hiking and hamming" on the Appalachian Trail in various states. I like 7.043+/- or 14.043+/- as my starting frequency. My main home antenna is an 80 Meter Horizontal Loop, 290 feet of insulated #14 Flex-Weave wire, up about 40 feet. I use a BiggIR vertical antenna as my secondary antenna. My portable rigs are both Elecraft rigs: the K1 and the KX3. At home I use my Yaesu FT-2000D, my KX3 with Hardrock-50 Amp, or my Elecraft K2.

I volunteer at the SKYWARN Desk at the National Weather Service Forecast Office in Blacksburg, VA. Please contact me at (540) 250-8184 if you'd like to help make reports on severe weather. I'd love to help you be an active participant. There are lots of ways to be a part of the SKYWARN Team. For instance, check out WXSpots Log!

I enjoy CW, SSB, and digital modes, such as PSK31 and RTTY, as well as JT65. I want to earn WAS on JT65. I hope you will help me, if you live in the USA. A distant wish is to earn DXCC on JT65 as well. Please confirm our contact on LogBook of the World (LOTW) if at all possible. I do NOT use eQSL, but I DO use the Buro for DX contacts!

I like the short QRP contests, especially the Flight of the Bumblebees on the last Sunday afternoon of July, the NJ Skeeter Hunt, and the QRP To The Field Contests. Besides simple day-hiking, I also like to paddle my own canoes, but don't go canoe-camping any more.

I'm always in the VA QSO Party, and in ARRL Field Day. I am a County Hunter, and will gladly give you Montgomery County, VA, and/or nearby counties. My CQ Zone is 5,and my ITU Zone is 8. I QSL 100%! If you're in my log, that's the right place to be. I'll be happy to send you my confirmation via LoTW or my card via the U. S. mail, as I don't use eQSLs. An SASE would be appreciated.

On July 23-25, 2010, I made a trip to the Outer Banks of North Carolina, going to Hatteras and Ocracoke Islands, both of which are in the IOTA Islands Group NA-067. I operated on Hatteras Island on Friday, July 23, and again on July 24 for the IOTA contest. I was on Ocracoke Island the next day, July 25, 2010.

On Friday and Saturday, July 23 and 24, 2010, I activated Cape Hatteras Light (ARLHS USA-119; USA Islands NC005S, in Dare County, NC ) . On Sunday, July 25, 2010, I activated Ocracoke Island Light (ARLHS USA-561; USA Islands NC001S, in Hyde County, NC).

If you want my QSL card for contacts during this trip, please include your SASE with your QSL card, and no eQSLs please. I also QSL all QSOs via LoTW. (I may have said this before?!)

I was the 2013-2014 Lay Leader in the Newport-Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church, in Newport, VA, and love singing in the choir. It's a great church.

I am hoping to earn my 5-Band Worked All States award in 2015, as well as to earn DXCC on 160 meters. Help me if you can, please!

On July 27, 2014, I was Bumble Bee 21.

On August 10th, 2014, my Skeeter Hunt Skeeter Number was 19, operating from Virginia.

I enjoy NTS Traffic handling and was the former ARES Emergency Coordinator for Chester County, PA, 2005-2007.

73, Carter N3AO
