Bill is a member of Mid-Continent Chapter 35 - Greater Kansas City Area, life member QCWA and past member of the QCWA Board of Directors. Chairman of both the 1990 and 1997 QCWA Conventions. Charter Life member ARRL. Served as ARRL Missouri Section Manager, Midwest Division Vice-Director and Midwest Region Director.
A vetern of WWII, he served with the Alaskan Air Transport Command. He then went on to graduate from the University of Kansas in 1948 and the University of Missouri in 1952.
First licensed in 1958 as KNØORB. Later held calls KØORB and KØVRB. Active on 80 through 2 meters. A "regular" on the Sunday QCWA 20 meter net.

Dr. William "Bill" McGrannahan of Kansas City, MO, died April 24, 2005. There will be no formal service. The family suggests that friends observe a memorial moment according to their own individual persuasion. A gathering of friends will be on Friday, April 29, 2005, from 2-4 p.m., at Central United Methodist Church where Bill was a member. The church is located at 5144 Oak, Kansas City, MO. Enter on the west side of the building. No flowers please. Gifts to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation or to Children's Mercy Hospital will be appreciated.
Dr. McGrannahan was born Nov. 13, 1921, in Fredonia, KS, but lived most of his life in Kansas City. After graduation from Westport High School in 1940, he entered the University of Kansas City. When war was declared (WWII) he enlisted in the Army Air Corps and served with the Alaskan Air Transport Command. Home from the service, Bill entered the University of Kansas. He graduated in 1948 with a Bachelor's Degree in Zoology. He then enrolled in the University of Missouri Kansas City. Four years later he received his Doctorate in Dental Surgery.
He established a practice on the Country Club Plaza and remained engaged in private practice until his retirement in 1986. His lecture circuit activities extended to 1990.
During this span of 38 years, Bill was active in the District Dental Society and became its president in 1970. He was a Fellow of the American College of Dentists. His lectures and continuing education courses were presented to numerous dental schools, dental societies, and similar organizations in the United States, Canada and England. He was a member of American Mensa. Bill served on the volunteer staff of Children's Mercy Hospital and was a member of the Research Hospital oral surgery staff. He received two citations from the American Dental Association for his contributions to scientific programs. Similar honors were received from Baylor University and from the University of Pittsburg.
He was a life member of the Alumni Associations of both UMKC and KU. He served on the UMKC Alumni Board and later became its president. Bill was also a member of the Jayhawk Society.
Upon retirement he turned his attention to his several hobbies-backpacking, camping and boating. His "stay at home" hobby was amateur radio. He held an FCC license for over 40 years. His station call sign was NØZL. He was a Charter Life Member of the American Radio Relay League and held three elected national offices in that organization. Bill was also a long time member of the Medical Amateur Radio Council.
He is survived by his loving wife, Virginia, of the home. And by his daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Steven Brown of Peculiar, MO, along with their five children, Maggie Rose, Sophia, Andy, Stacie and Melanie. Also surviving is his son, Michael, and his two children Lindsay and Lauren McGrannahan. (Arr; Muehlebach Funeral Home, 816-444-2060).

Bill was also a Life Member of the Quarter Century Wireless Association(QCWA) last serving that organizaton on it's Board of Directors from 2002 to 2004. He was the Vice President of QCWA Chapter 35.
Bill was one of the finest gentlemen I've ever had the pleasure of knowing. He will be missed by a great many people.

I wanted to let you know it is now official, KØORB is the new callsign of the St. Joseph Medical Center Amateur Radio Club. Please let all the Hams and Bill's family know. John KCØPUK and myself will be planning a Saturday morning Breakfast Club get together soon I will let you know.

Keith has worked hard to establish this station at the medical center. As many of you know, much of the station equipment belonged to Bill and was donated by Bill's family members. Besides the basic equipment the station also has many personal, ham radio items which belonged to Bill.
