BRAINARD, Jr., Gordon Age 86, a much loved father, grandfather, and brother of Hamilton, Ohio passed away March 31, 2018 peacefully with his family and Hospice of Middletown present. He was born October 8, 1931 in Hector Village, Minnesota and resided at Bickford of Middletown Senior Living, Middletown, OH for the last two years. He was the son of the late Gordon Brainard, Sr. of Bedford, IN and the late Evie Louise Ledbetter Brainard Thacker, Gadsden, AL. Gordon Brainard served in the Army during 1949-1953 at Fort Bragg, North Carolina with the 82nd Airborne during the Korean Conflict. He worked as a truck driver for 35 years with Gable and Sons Trucking, Wilson Freight Co, Specter Freight Sys., Air Products & Chemicals and Champion Papers. Gordon also worked in the Champion Paper mill for 5 years. He was a member of the Local Teamsters #100. While as truck driver he received from Specter Freight Sys. Local Union 836 a 5 years safe driver award; and from Air Products and Chemicals Local Union 836 a 5 years safe driver award. Gordon loved being a Ham Radio Operator and his call sign was KI8I. He loved to travel to the Ham Radio conventions and seeing Light Houses with his wife. He was a member of Ben Franklin Lodge #719 Hamilton, Ohio and the Valley of Cincinnati Scottish Rites, Cincinnati, Ohio. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Geraldine Louise Batcher Brainard of 60 years of Hamilton, OH; two sisters Alice Page of FL and Elsie Jane Brainard of Hamilton, OH. Gordon is survived by his children Debra (Danny) Archer, Morehead, KY, James Brainard, New Miami, OH, Michael (Christy) Brainard, Seven Mile, OH and Laura (Charlie) Craycraft, Monroe, OH; six grandchildren Travis (Ashley) Archer and Kyle (fianc? Summer Reffitt) Archer of Morehead, KY, Amber Brainard of Trenton, OH, Ashley (Cory) Smith of Trenton, OH, Courtney (fianc? Brandon Williams) Brainard of West Chester, OH, Brittany (Taylor) Hester, of Cincinnati, OH; eleven great grandchildren Austin Maggard, Houston Archer, Samuel Colton Archer, Jaiden Archer and RaeLynn Reffitt of Morehead, KY, Kylie and Ethan Gaddis, Connor Lilley of Trenton, OH, Emersyn and Elsie Smith of Trenton, OH, McKenna Brainard, Cadon and Ethan Williams, of West Chester, OH.; sister Bonnie (Wiley) Williams, of Gadsden, AL; brother Charles (Paula) Brainard of Lewes, DE; best friend Dick Stevenson of Bickford, Middletown, OH. He is leaving behind numerous friends at Bickford of Middletown Senior Living, Middletown, OH and numerous family members in Gadsden, AL. His visitation will take place at Ivey Funeral Home 2565 Princeton Rd, Hamilton, OH on Saturday, April 14, 2018 from 10am-11am with a Celebration of Life with Masonic Rites following at 11am with Chaplin Mary Jessee officiating. Burial at Rose Hill Burial Park with Military Honors. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be sent to Hospice of Middletown 3909 Central Ave, Middletown, OH 45044.
