Now continuously licensed for 56 years. The changes I have experienced!

I operate 80m thru 450mhz all modes. Interests include Astronomy, Scuba Diving, Meteorology, ELECTRONICS, computers, and most pure sciences. An Engineer by trade. As a former business owner in two-way communications, I burned out of ham radio and was silent for almost 15yrs. Now (1998 Nov), back on the air and loving it again........First licensed as WN6GKH in 1963, earned General class WB6GKH in 1963. I joined the Army in 1967 and Operated intermittently from Laos in 1969/70 as XW8CAL. Left the service in 1970 and earned my second phone, still valid today and referred to as the General Radio Operator's License (GROL).

In 1976, I moved to Oregon, upgraded to Advanced and was issued the new call, KB7GP.

(5/10/2009) Building our retirement home in East Olympia, WA. Starting with the SHOP (important stuff first).

(9/1/2009) The shop is built and serving as our home until the house is built. Radio is now set up. Simple ground mounted vertical performs well for DX but could do better locally with NVIS concept or simple horizontal/inverted vee configuration.

(06/01/10) The house building is going forward and with luck, we should be moving in sometime in October. Exciting times these. Soon I'll have the shop to myself and I can spend time getting it arranged.

(10/04/11) Moved into the house last December just before Christmas. Currently cleaning up the landscaping and trying to make everything ready for the winter months. Have the radio set up in the office portion of the "shop" but haven't taken over the shop area due to a temporary living arrangement. Will move forward with shop improvements next spring. Have some wires in the air and a ground mounted vertical over a 32 radial field. Works great. With some difficulty and 100 Watts, I was able to work the Rotuma DXpedition, 3D2R on three bands as well as placing in the upper half of the leader board working the T32C DXpedition on "Christmas" Island on all bands and modes except 6M. Moving forward and loving it.

(1/14/2012) Station today as it's set up in my shop/office. Modest, cozy and the cat likes it too.

73 all and see you on the bands. -1715-

(7/13/15) Finally cleaned up my "Lab". I moved it from the office area into a secure area of its own. Here is where I manage to breathe new life into vintage equipment and just play around in general. Even when it is 90+° outside, this well-insulated area remains comfortable with the fan(s) going. If it gets too hot I just roll in the ductless A/C and enjoy it even more.
