Robert W. Mallory, age 81, of Blissfield passed away Wednesday, June 8, 2016, at the Hospice of Lenawee Home.

He was born Sept. 2, 1934, in Detroit, Mich., the only child of Norris and Helen (Boyer) Mallory. Bob graduated from Blissfield High School in 1952, the same year he was the top scorer in high school basketball in Lenawee County. He was a member of the Sugar Boys basketball team.

Bob was a proud Air Force veteran, serving during the Cold War.

On March 4, 1955, he married Violet Phillips at the Evangelical United Brethren Church, and they were blessed with more than 61 years together.

After completing airline school in Minnesota, Bob worked in customer service at Detroit Metro Airport, retiring from US Air in 1985 with 28 years of service. He was a member of the Emmanuel United Methodist Church. In his younger years, Bob and his family enjoyed traveling. He was an amateur radio operator, with his call symbol, K8WXW. Robert was an avid reader and he also loved watching old westerns.

In addition to his wife, Violet, he is survived by his children, Mary Ann (Kerwin) Leader of Blissfield and Martin (Sharon) Mallory of Wilmore, Ky.; grandchildren, Audra, Amy and Austin (Taylor) Leader; and a great-granddaughter, Sophia Violet.

Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 16, 2016, at Emmanuel United Methodist Church with the Rev. Devin Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant View Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted by Blissfield VFW Post 10912 and the Blissfield American Legion Post 325. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 15, at Wagley Funeral Home, Tagsold Chapel.
