Chapter 201

I was born in Boise Idaho on March 28 1947. We moved to the east coast when I was 6 but returned to Idaho when I was 12 years old, and have lived here ever since.

I met my 'elmer' Gerry Moser W7PCP (SK) in 1959 and he helped me with morse code and theory so that I first became licensed as a Novice in 1962 with the call sign KN7OLJ. In those days, a person only had a year to upgrade and the novice license was non-renewable.

Gerry was a chief engineer at a local AM broadcast station and following him around helped me with my interest in electronics and radio. Gerry introduced me to his oldest daughter, Deneille, and we married in 1966. We had three children, Brett, Brian and Rachel. Brett has a successful career with Hewlett Packard as a software scientist. Rachel works for a broadband internet provider scheduling work crews and orders. Brian passed in 1991.

I started my career with the Idaho State Police as a dispatcher in July 1971. The hiring officers said my interest in radio and being a licensed radio amateur had a big part in them hiring me, so I have ham radio to thank for a 34 year career with the State of Idaho.

I has promoted to patrol trooper in 1972 and held a variety of jobs with my career with the State of Idaho including port of entry trooper, officer-in-charge of a port of entry region, I transferred to the Idaho Division of Motor Vehicles in 1988 and retired from there in 2005 as the Program Manager for the Motor Vehicle Dealer Licensing and Investigations Unit.

Through out my career I believe that being a licensed radio amateur enhanced my career. I have held calls WA7ACG, KN7OLJ, K7OLJ and was trustee for a Civil Air Patrol military amateur radio Station call sign WA7AQI in Boise Idaho.

I am a charter member of Gem State Chapter 201 , the only Idaho chapter that was formed in 1998. I have held various officer positions and am currently the secretary / treasuerer.

Gem State Chaper 201 meets monthly at 6PM at the Golden Corral Buffet in Boise on the last Tuesday of each month, September thru May.
