Nicholas "Nick" Bassolino age 77, passed away August 2, 2018 in Mount Vernon, WA.

He was the oldest of two sons born to Nicholas Frank and Rose Bassolino. He graduated from Gardena High School in California.

Following high school, he joined the U.S. Navy as a radioman, stationed in the Philippines.

After the Navy he worked as a telephone installer, and then an apprentice plumber with his dad for a few years. He joined the California Highway Patrol in 1967 and found his true vocation as a traffic officer for the next 30 years in Los Angeles, Malibu, Truckee and San Luis Obispo, CA.

The friends he made on the Patrol, particularly in Malibu in the 70's, have continued to stay in touch over the intervening years.

After retirement he returned to amateur radio, participating in local radio events, and was involved in testing applicants in Morse Code for their radio licenses. His "ham shack" was his favorite place in later years. His hobbies and interest were amateur magic, tennis, golf, country-western dancing, target shooting, amateur radio and reading.

He was a member of the California Association of Highway Patrolmen, Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, Western Washington DX Club, and he was a former member of the Magic Castle in Hollywood, CA.

He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Ursula; and daughter, Gina; son, Marc both of El Cajon, CA; brother, Ron (Nikki) of Santa Rosa, CA; nieces, Amanda (Ward) Hunt of Novato, CA and Emily Bassolino (Josh Lazcano) of San Francisco, CA and great-niece. Clove Bassolino Lazcano of San Francisco, CA; former wife, Susan Bassolino of El Cajon, CA. He was preceded in death by his parents.

The Malibu group will be meeting in Sacramento in September and they said that they'll be sharing stories about Nick and his dry sense of humor, and "toasting him with milk!"
