Chapter 85

I was first licensed in 1955 as KN5APB Novice Class in New Orleans, La.

Got K5APB in 1958 when in US MARINE CORPS Okinawa. Operated KR6MI. My M/SGT Vince Veccahrelli W4JOK (SK) and I ran phone patch traffic for the troops to their families in the states. I want to thank those sweet ladies who were telephone operaters who were so efficient holding open lines for us and those telephone operaters in Okinawa for their assistance. I want to thank all of those ham operators who gave of their time to make all of this possible.

In my off schedule time I worked a lot of DX SSB, AM, and CW. This was great duty. The best duty in the US MARINE CORPS. Please look up Marine Corps Mars.Com. I was a civilian then and not in Vietnam. Those guys did a great job and should be recognized.

I was also in the US ARMY SIGNAL CORPS in Germany where I had a great duty assignment in Radio Relay and Carrier Operations. No time for Ham Radio because I had let my ticket expire in 1963.

In 1977 I started all over. In Aug. 1977, I got my old call K5APB (General Class) No Vanity Existed then. In 1992 I got Extra Class.

I got into DSTAR and I am very grateful and THANKFUL to the N5MAD D-STAR Group . If you want to see how ugly I am, look up N5APB, one of our clubs DSTAR repeaters linked to Reflector 48B for Skywarn and Emergencies.. DSTAR is growing.

We are grateful to Tony K5VIT and Bluebird Wireless Broadband for the reflecter. We welcome all who check into the net, just as long as you hold the proper ham license. Everyone, anywhere, in the world, is invited to check in.

Thanks to Frank KC5UCV who introduced me to D-STAR and to Tony K5VIT, who made the 48B reflector possible, and to the N5MAD D-STAR Club, That presented me with the certificate, the Pen Set, and the Icom ID- 880-H D-STAR Radio.
