K4EZM - Randall M. Payne

I am a native Floridian, born in Sebring, FL where I live now. I've lived in Homestead FL, Louisville KY, and Arcadia FL prior to returning to Sebring.

My picture shows my other main interest, fishing, especially fly fishing for largemouth bass. That's my first bass on the fly rod.

I was first licensed as KN4KTI in the late 1950s. That license was updated to Technician. After a brief time of inactivity, I was relicensed as K4EZM in the late 1960s.

I serve as the ARES Emergency Coordinator for Highlands County FL, a part of the West Central Florida Section of ARRL. Emergency communications is a primary interest for me. Lately I've gotten active on HF chasing the W1AW portable stations, hoping to earn WAS with them. I'm also chasing DX, looking for a DXCC award.

Current station has an Icom IC-730 running 100 watts into a Drake MN7 tuner feeding a horizontal loop with about 260 feet of wire up at about 20 feet, fed with ladder line. It's working great for me. I have a Drake TR-7 (needs some repairs) and R4c (also needs work) paired with a T4b. Most of my HF is on SSB, but I'm working on my CW speed and also on getting on the digital modes.
