John F. Elwood Jr, 87, of Beverly Hills, FL, formerly of Seymour, CT, died February 17, 2012, at his home in Florida. He was the beloved husband of Dolores Elwood and the late Pauline Elwood.
He was born in Derby, September 28, 1924, a son of the late John Elwood Sr. and Helen Merrill Elwood and was a U.S. Navy Veteran who served aboard the USS Boise from 1943-1946 during the Pacific Campaign of WWII. Mr. Elwood taught electrical courses at Eli Whitney Technical School in Hamden for several years before retiring from Sikorsky Aircraft in Stratford after 28 years as an electrical engineering supervisor. He also enjoyed being an amateur ham radio operator.
In addition to his wife Dolores, he is survived by his son, John F. Elwood III and his wife Virginia of Wallingford; his two daughters and sons-in-law, Jeanne and Gary Thomas of Naugatuck, and Gail and D. Robert Welsch of Wyoming; seven grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; two nieces and a nephew. He was predeceased by his sister, Dorothy Horesco; and his granddaughter, Sandra Yates.
