Cliff Cheng has been a ham since 1975 and is still in love with ham radio. Starting off as Novice WN6JPA, today he is AC6C. Cliff is best known as a ham radio historian, and is the author of the Novice History column in the QCWA Journal since 2008. For Cliff, his time as a Novice was his happiest as ham. His website, the Novice Historical Society, www.NoviceHistory.org has been documenting the rich history of the Novice era since 2005. About 300 hams so far have entrusted their Novice stories and personal photographs to this unique website. Cliff has interviewed 1,000's of hams about how they got their start as Novices.

The K9YA Telegraph (free on-line ham magazine) is running his series of articles on honoring SKs and elmers. Cliff has honored all his elmers and muses with webpages. He also created a memorial club for his elmer Ted Ryan, WB6JXY, his electric shop teacher, www.tedryan.bappy.com. By honoring his elmers and muses, Cliff furthers the traditions of ham radio and teaches newcomers.

Professionally Cliff consults on Emergency Management, and was on the Management Faculties of UCLA, USC, and UCI. He is an organizational scientist and earned his Ph.D. at the University of Southern California. He also served as Los Angeles City Commissioner of Human Relations. Cliff was active early in the CERT movement, recruiting and setting up CERT training for 400 people, www.certsponsor.s5.com. Deeply embedded in Red Cross, ARES, RACES and other local em comm groups, Cliff's main focus on em comm these days is training search and rescue operators at the Southwest U.S. Regional Search and Rescue School, SAR City. Immersed since adolescence, Cliff was President of his Junior and Senior High School ham radio clubs. He revived the dormant ham radio at USC and secured funding for new rigs. He served as Asst Director of the ARRL's Southwestern Division and as QCWA Chapter 7 Secretary.
