Minutes of the General Membership meeting of QCWA at the Dayton Hamvention May 16, 2010
President Roske called the meeting to order at 10:29 a.m. and asked for a moment of silence for all the Silent Keys. He then introduced General Manager Walbridge and the board members present: Baldwin, C. Harrison, Erwin, McCalvy, Simpson and Supina.
President Roske thanked the chapter officers who were in attendance for their efforts on behalf of their chapters and QCWA.
He then read a resolution by the Board of Directors thanking Chapter 152 and specifically Director McCalvy for arranging the QCWA cruises in 2001, 2005 and 2009. Next he presented the Member of the Year Award to Vic Culver for his work in arranging the Virginia Beach Convention.
The minutes of the 2009 meeting, as posted on the QCWA website, were approved.
General Manager Walbridge thanked all the chapter secretaries for sending in the annual report. The information in these reports is used to update the information in the chapter database; this is the only source of information when there is a request for information on active chapters. He also stressed the importance for members to advise of any call sign or address changes.
Director McCalvy, Chair of the Administration Committee stated that its purpose "oversight committee for the editor, General Manager and Journal, and to look at the constitution and bylaws."
Director Carolyn Harrison, chair of the Chapter Relations committee had a busy year:
1. Obtained approval of the QC100 contest category
2. Five chapters came together to sponsor the 2011 convention in Providence RI . The 2012 convention will be held in Reno NV.
3. Three honor awards were awarded
a. Vic Culver, W4VIC - member of the year
b. Blanch Randles, W4GXZ - John DiBlasi Award
c. Croft Taylor, VE3CT - Hall of Fame
4. Board members surveyed chapter secretaries to determine the type of programs which had been well accepted by members, and also what seemed to be effective in attracting new members. This information is being assembled and will be provided to chapters.
Director Erwin chair of External Relations (USA) mentioned the convention at the HamVention in Dallas June 11 & 12. He stated that his committee deals primarily with the FCC and other agencies and mentioned that the FCC is looking to modify the 60 meter band allocation
Director Simpson, chair of the External Relations committee (Canada), stated not much change in Amateur Radio Regulations, but that Canada will soon get the 60 meter band.
Director Baldwin, chair of publications committee advised that the committee:
1. Proofreads and monitors contents of the Journal.
2. Checks the web page almost daily
3. Oversees the taping program for the blind.
Bob Smith, KK3P, provided information on the 2011 convention to be held in Providence RI September 9-1, 2011.
There being no further business the meeting was adjourned at approximately 11:50 am.
