Val is a current member of the QCWA Board of Directors. Discovering ham radio with a "green-eyed" Philco radio in Colorado, he became licensed in 1959 as KN0YCJ, becoming K0YCJ. College recruitment by Texas Instruments resulted in a move to Texas and a new call, W5PUT. Moving to Collins Radio Company, he remained for 13 years. Later, while working at Xerox Corporation, he formed/sold two companies: Erwin Communications and RF Consultants Inc. Departing Xerox in 1983, he founded International Compliance Corporation (ICC), offering engineering services. ICC was sold in 1998. Semi-retired, Val continues engineering consultation through his firm, Summit Associates, Inc. He and his wife are avid ballroom-type dancers. A 20+-year collector of telegraph straight-keys, he attends 15-20 hamfests/year performing QCWA functions and pursuing that elusive rare key. An automobile enthusiast, Val enjoys driving his Shelby Mustang on weekends. Affiliations: Licenses/Certificates: Val Erwin, W5PUT |
