At an early age, Joan was learning the alphabet from her Father's QSL cards. Thus began her interest in radio!

While studying for her commercial license on the east coast of Canada and thinking about ship-to-shore adventures, she realized she didn't fulfill the age requirement. Radio station CFBC approached her to become a member of their technical staff. Later that experience led to a position at CFRB a 50,000 watt station in Toronto, from whence all programs for the CBS network originating in Canada were also transmitted. Its short-wave affiliate station was CFRX. In addition, advertising agency experience in radio, TV and print has added to her extensive background.

Since obtaining her Amateur Radio license in 1972, Joan has held many executive positions in Amateur Radio groups in both Toronto and Ottawa including that of a former President of the Canadian Amateur Radio Federation, (CARF), Canada's National Amateur Radio body at the time. More recently she has been active in the planning process of QCWA International conventions.

Joan would like the opportunity to assist in the guidance of QCWA and the future of our hobby - Amateur radio! If elected Director, Joan looks forward to working with the new Board, with the objective of enhancing our already elite organization.

73,
Joan Powell, VE3ZC
